Ut vestri ego exsisto verus
This is it---the species of wasp which is currently swarming my back yard on a daily basis. The Tarantula Hawk gets its name from paralyzing a tarantula and laying a single egg inside the spider. The young wasp feeds on the still living spider until it is able to fly.
The picture above puts into scale the size of the larger wasp I have pictured below. Good luck sleeping tonight.

Originally from Utah, I am currently living in Nevada. I served in the army from 1988-1992, eventually graduating from Southern Utah University for my undergraduate work in History, and UNR for my graduate work in Literacy Studies. I teach History and remedial reading. My first chapbook, Four Way Stop, was published by Main-Traveled Roads in 2005. My second chapbook, Gathering up the Scattered Leaves, was released from Foothills Publishing in 2006. My latest, Working in the Birdhouse, was just released from Foothills. I received an honorable mention in the Nevada Arts Coucil Artist Grants Program for the 2007-2008 year. I have completed my first full length manuscript and I am currently submitting it for publication.
